As part of our forms and conventions research, we wanted a different way to present the information so we decided to test how green screen videos actually work. We used a blue screen and made our team mate stand in front of it and then each used different different video editing programs to place the image behind him. They were Adobe Premier Pro, After effects and Final Cut Pro.

Green Screen Tests

For the first video, i got any image from google to just test the effects on Adobe Premier Pro. It worked well using this image and ended up being more clearer than the second video. On the right is the image i used for the first test. When playing back the video, because the board we used was a displaying blue board, there were staples visible in the background. Thus, as an improvement we shall get an actual green screen.

On the second test, as a team we decided that we needed to see how it would look with one of us in a new room. So, I changed the background and sharpened the edges of Dan so it looked realistic. As improvements, we decided that whoever was being filmed would have to further back and smaller so the spatial relationship of the scene is kept and also using a better screen instead of blue.

How we did it?

On the left is the video that we used. We imported it into Premier Pro as the second video and placed the image as the first video. Then we went on the 'video effects' and clicked 'keying' so i could use the 'colour key' tool to select the blue screen colour. Once we did this,  we went to the effect controls and adjusted the 'colour tolerance' levels so the image came over the blue screen. Lastly, we adjusted the edge thin so the blue colour didnt appear around the person we used for our video.
