Independant music (often shortended to indie) is music produced inedpendantly from major commercial record labels or their subsidiary companies. The genre's of indie pop and indie rock can be deceiving by the name it is categorized under. The use of the word 'indie' is what gives it its diverse category as both indie pop and indie rock are alternatives of the original genre. For example indie pop is an alternative style of music that was originated from pop music. This alternative style could be anything from the soundtrack to the lyrics of the song. Traditional pop music is often known for the melodies and concise, catchy structures alone. Indie pop however, tends to specify more of a rock styled background. During the 80's and the early 90's indie rock prided itself in being stereotypically noisey and loud with scratchy guitar elements included.
Our chosen song for our music video falls inbetween the category of indie pop/rock which means it expresses both pop and rock in the music. It is also known as indie by the unique style of the artists wearing a variety of different outfits in different songs to match the genre of music being played.

Indie clothing can play a vital role in establishing an artist or band as 'indie'. Indie clothing ranges across a wide spectrum and can be interpreted as indie in many ways. A lot of artists will have the same style in clothing and the way they look however, some artists do distance themselves from others by standing out wearing unusual clothing. Indie clothing is often addressed as jeans, desert boots, t-shirts and shirts with accessories such as scarfs, bracelets, tattoos and hats. The detail of the way an artist has to look to come under a certain genre goes right down to the hairstyle or posture/stance of the artist(s).
We as a group particularly like the idea of dressing smart casual for a music video as not many artists do this and we thought it would be a unique way to stand out. The idea of wearing blazers, turtleneck jumpers, desert boots and skinny jeans fit the genre we are focusing on. This is similar to the way 'Hurts' dress (featured under the indie pop section).
