As the second part of the ancilliary task, creating a Magazine advert for our music video is essential. In producing this advert, it would have to reference the front cover of the album some how so that it conventially looked like a uniform product. To begin in producing the advert, I looked at successful existing products that are in magazines so that I knew the correct things to include when producing my own. Below are a bunch of magazines I looked through to know how firstly different magazines present them and also what genre of music the magazines have in them which gives me an idea of the target audience too. Through the research, it revealed that the size of the adverts had to have a height of 297mm by 210mm width, thus, the size has to be A4. Also, the advert had to include key information about the album and information on how it can be purchased. Most of the adverts were single pages which suggests that they all should be, however, the La Roux album advert in the slideshow on the left indicates that some adverts can be double pages. La Roux's one doesnt cover two pages across a magazine but is back to back on the same page. An advantage of this is that it allows room for more information of the album to be spread across the pages and also the first page will draw the reader in to find out more.

Banners are placed at the top and bottom which also have a hint of greys and blacks to add to the vintage feel. Also, it adds to the professionalism of the band.
The use of three colour as the colour theme evident which helps create a vintage, old fashioned look that helps support promoting the bands style and genre. There is also more concentration of colour at the top and bottom which makes reading the text easier.
Advertisement of where to access the album is clear with the 'play.com' logo at the bottom left which also helps promote the distributors and lastly shows the professionilsm of the advert.
The text has a orange drop shadow that relates to the theme of the orange and yellow. Having this design feature creates a sense of relationships with both the text and image thus making them both correspond well together.
The date is clear and lets the audience know when they can purchase the album which is ensential as a music advert convention.
Using trees corresponds to the feel of the album being tranquil and it also relates well with the title of the album "come around sundown".

Mysteriousity and a sense of enigma is created with the sky being reflected by the sun. This design feature adds to the genre of the bands style which usually have unorthodox themes in their songs.
The red being mixed in with blues and yellows adds to the complementary colours thus changing the simple imagery into a dream like scenery.
Having the title spread across the whole poster makes it clear and for the audience to know clearly what the album is called. In comparison to the 'King of Leon' magazine poster above, this states the album name instead of the actual band name
The blue bar across the bottom of the page clearly indicates the main colour for the colour convenetions of this magazine however a sky image has a opacity of 50% to add to the design features.
Reviews have been placed at the bottom to illustrate popular/familiar distrubutors that have listened to the album. This will give the audience more of a reason to listen to it, especially if it has high ratings.
Similiarly to the 'king of leon' magazine poster, the time to purchase the album is stated, however it states it is avaliable now. Doing this would make the audience want to buy it now rather than having to wait.

Examples of Magazine Adverts
This advert is more informative, however I feel it includes to much information than the two above so its a style I may not be using when creating my own magazine advert.
As the band's genre is drum and bass, the image is relevant as it adds to the conventions of what you'd expect to see of the typical target audience group that listens to drum and bass i.e. Chavs.
Since this is more of an advertisment for the tour of the band, details such as numbers etc. are included which isnt relevant to my own post production. However, it indicates what i shouldnt include in a magazine advert but what should be evident in a band touring advert.
Details of dates and how to get in touch are displayed in a different colour to the just informative text. This convention may be something I use in my own magazine advert.
Distributors and producers are again displayed and the other corner illustrates the album.
Again, there is a contrast of the bottom and top of the poster which seems this is a clear convention that has to be in my own.
Chase and Status
The Horrors
As part of this research, below indicate more information on the magazine adverts I have decided to look at more.

La Roux
The title isnt centred like the other adverts, however it is clear and in the artists font which clearly represents her as if it were a logo.
Colour conventions are also matched within her hair, i.e. the yellows and oranges are a lighter tone of the dark red background which is present on the artists face also.
Similiarly to 'the horrors', there are newspapers and music magazines that gave their reviews but with their actual comments too. This extends the idea of not just only including the star rating system when producing my post production.
The 'debut album' text is the same to the title font of the artists thus emphasising on the importance the date and artist both have in this form of promotion.
Unlike the other magazine adverts, it is the artists that is on the front which is something to consider.
The main difference with this magazine advert to the others is that is has two pages which is more expensive but makes it more memorable to the audience which questions whether it is actually purchased more or not.
A logo is printed at the bottom of the distrubutors which is a common convetion within all the adverts.
After studying the magazine examples, I have learnt more about the conventions required when producing my own post production, examples being relating the colours with the texts so they dont look out of place. Also, creating a contrast at the top and bottom of the page, so information such as the producers and distrubutors can be displayed cleary. These design features all contribute to making a magazine advert that looks not only professional but promotes the brand well too which is essential in this advertisment production.
